Is Fasting in the Month of Shaban helpful for Ramadan Fasts?

The Islamic Hijri Calendar is consisting of 12 blessed months that are established in the era of Hazrat Umar (R.A). Every month of the Islamic Hijri Calendar has its spiritual as well as ancient significance. However, there are a few months that hold a higher rank associated with other months. The main reason for these months, they are given more worth and admiration by the Muslims. It can be said that Shaban divisions off and precedes to other virtuous things. The month of Shaban acts as a bridge between the two sacred months of Rajab and Ramadan.

Fasting in Shaban and Hadiths

Allah’s Messenger says that who keeps fast in the month of Ramadan. It is narrated by Hazrat Usama ibn Zayd (R.A), he asked the Holy Prophet (S.A.W),

• “I have never seen you keep fast in the month as you do in Shaban.” To which, Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) responded: “It is the month people disrespect that is among Rajab and Ramadan. In that month actions are presented to the Allah of the Worlds, so I like my performances to be presented while I am fasting.” (Nasai)
In another Hadith, Holy Prophet (PBUH) said that,

• “When the Middle Night of Shaban (the Holy Month) reaches, you should stand (Pleading) in the night and should fast in the day following it.” (Ibn Majah)

So, these Hadiths shows the importance of Rajab, Shahab, and Ramadan. The fasting of Shaban is a rehearsal for Ramadan’s fast. May Allah accept our fast in His Sight. Ameen!
